On the left stands Bristol Cathedral, originally founded as St Augustine’s Abbey in 1140, later becoming a cathedral in 1542 after the Dissolution. Its twin towers and great rose window dominate the west front.
On the right is the Great Gatehouse of the University of Bristol’s Wills Memorial Building, completed in 1925, a fine example of neo‑Gothic architecture.
The statue in the centre depicts Rajah Rammohun Roy, the Indian reformer who died in Bristol in 1833 and is buried nearby at Arnos Vale Cemetery.
